This course will cover the theoretical and practical basics of translation.

The following topics will be dealt with through specific translation assignments: text analysis, translation strategies and techniques, language transfer strategies, research tools, error analysis, working with dictionaries.

Interactive approach

2 tests: MOT (middle of term) and EOT (end of term); continuous evaluation

Reference lists, class handouts and translation assignments will be distributed either in digital format or in hard copy.

In order to participate in this course, students must have successfully completed Pflichtmodule 4 (Translationsrelevante Fremdsprachenkompetenz II) und 12a (Translationsrelevante Textanalyse und Textkompetenz Muttersprache I).

If the number of students is too high in one  course (group a or b), students will be shifted to the other course (based on date and time of enrolment).
