In Austria the image of America, that is the USA, was subjected to numerous changes in the 20th century: as a place of freedom and hope for a better future for the emigrants at beginning of the century and after 1938, as an enemy in the First and Second World War, as a place of skyscrapers and automobiles, aircraft and missiles, as a place of wealth and prosperity, as well as discrimination and race riots, or as the world's policeman or protector of Western Europe during the Cold War, etc.
All these aspects are described in the PS-work and will be presented in lectures. Target is a good overview of the relationships of the past 100 years.
