Acquisition of basic competences in dealing with historical sources and representations on Contemporary History and/or the 20th and 21st century as well as the ability to present the newly-acquired knowledge in oral and/or written form; acquisition of fundamental knowledge and use of relevant scientific methods.

Transfer of in-depth knowledge of socio-economic progress, domestic and foreign political evolution as well as cultural development of the Republic of Brazil (1889-2016).

Oral presentations and handout/paper, written paper, discussion, exercises, teacher's lecture.

Course with continuous performance assessment: attendance at all sessions, active participation in discussions, oral presentation and handout, final paper (10 pages).

Literature/reading-list will be discussed in class.

Due to substantial differences in the allocation of ECTS-Credits in various curricula (teacher training programs/specialized degree programs), the requirements for this course vary. Information will be provided by the instructor at the beginning of the course.
