winter semester 2016/2017 | Last update: 13.09.2016 | Place course on memo listAcquisition of basic competences in dealing with historical sources and representations on Contemporary History (on the 20th and 21st century ) as well as the ability to present the newly-acquired knowledge in oral and/or written form; acquisition of fundamental knowledge and use of relevant scientific methods.
This course focuses on the history and memory of the Holocaust. The murder of the European Jewry will be approached by a historical reconstruction of the events of the 1930s and 1940s. Also we will take a closer look at the changes from the perspective of memory studies. The developments both in historiography and in memorialization in German-speaking countries will be at the center of the topics to be elaborated during the course.
Reading in class, oral presentations and handout, final ? paper, discussion and exercises.
Course with continuous performance assessment: attendance at all sessions, active participation in discussions, oral presentation and hand-out, final paper (12 pages), written exam.
