Critical engagement with historical sites, objects and forms of (re-)presentation in memory cultures; skills for explaining historical phenomena in situ

In many respects, London may claim to be the first true metropolis of modern Europe. Fundamental changes of the sixteenth to nineteenth centuries inscribed themselves, still visibly, in the cityscape, which can therefore be read as a historical palimpsest. The excursion uses this wealth of traces for topographical explorations that track central topics of social, economic, cultural, religious and political history in urban space.

Guided tours in the field; presentations by the course instructors and by the students

Participation in the excursion and presentation with handout
