Expansion and consolidation of specific knowledge in the field of contemporary history by examination of new and uncommon topics, taking into account current tendencies and controversies of research, applying scientific skills (methods and working techniques) and linking with basic content, development of skills for the independent formulation of historical questions.

Migration is part of contemporary and recent history too. This is not only true for worldwide migration movements, but also for regionally limited migration due to economic or social crisis (e.g. the “Schwabenkinder”), because of dictatorships and persecution (e.g. the “Option” or the “Hutterites”) or simply because people have better job-opportunities outside their home-countries (e.g. contemporary Italian work-migration of high-qualified academics to English-speaking countries – brain drain). This regional migration will be at the focus of the seminar – though without geographical limit to certain regions, but with a focus on the 20^th and 21^stcenturies.

Course with continuous performance assessment: attendance at all sessions, required reading, active participation in discussions, oral presentation, seminar-paper.
