The students can ask a clearly formulated and well defined research question; they can independently analyze this question and present the result of their research in a scientific manner; they can refute critical remarks with good arguments or they can constructively use those remarks and finally write a scientific essay.

The Peace of Passarowitz (Pozarevac), closed on 1 July 1718, marked an important stage of the Habsburg conquest policy in the south-eastern European of the eighteenth century. Two hundred years later the then Austro-Hungarian Empire was dissolved. How is a more modern view of assessing this period of the Empire, settled between military-political successes and its final downfall? Can one ultimately speak of a foreseeable inevitable decline or rather of an unexpectedly successful and long-lasting survival?
