Content: Discussion of historical changes in human-environment-interactions. Methods: improved skills in handling and contextualizing primary and secondary sources; improved skills in oral and written presentations.

With the „spatial turn“ in the humanities and the emergence of environmental history as a field, the material dimension of human history has attracted more and more attention. One key area of study are “landscapes” – changes in land use practices, but also the aesthetics, perception, and appropriation of spaces and environments. In the seminar, we will discuss the history of landscapes both empirically and theoretically, focusing on case studies, and analyzing key historical documents, theoretical concepts and literature.

Seminar discussions, exercises and oral presentations.

Continuous assessment, regular and active participation in discussions, exercises and oral presentations, seminar paper.

Will be discussed in the first lesson.

Due to substantial differences in the allocation of ECTS-Credits in various curricula (teacher training programs/ specialized degree programs), the requirements for this course may vary. More detailed information will be provided at the beginning of the course.
