Understanding the classical (until 1970 the unique) eucharistic prayer in the Roman rite.

The late antique Roman Canon missae is one the most impressive monuments of liturgical spirituality in the Western churches, but also one of the main reasons for their splitting in confessional bodies since the 16th century. Because of its archaic features and its rethorically stylized characteristics the text is extremely difficult to understand. In the course of time - till present liturgical studies - there have been numerous, partially contradictory explanations of the Canon. In the seminar the meaning of this important prayer text should be disclosed.

Continuous assessment (based on regular oral contributions by participants), written paper.
