Acquisition of basic skills for dealing with historic sources and presentations of Contemporary History as well as skills in presenting the newly acquired knowledge orally as well as in writing.

Acquisition of a well-founded knowledge about the preliminary events, the unleashing, the progress and the end (peace agreements) of World War I, the "elemental catastrophe" of the 20th century.

Interactive learning process: oral presentations, papers, discussions.

Course with continuous performance assessment: attendance at all sessions, active participation in discussions, oral presentation and handout, paper (10 pages).

Guided research of selected literature will be part of the required tasks.

Due to substantial differences in the allocation of ECTS-Credits in various curricula (teacher training programs/specialized degree programs), the requirements for this course vary. Information will be provided by the instructor at the beginning of the course.
