645208 PS Austrian History: Learning, Knowledge and Ideo?logies in Austrian History
summer semester 2018 | Last update: 18.05.2018 | Place course on memo listBasic knowledge of subject-specific academic work
This introductory seminar course focuses on historical forms of learning, storing and passing on rational knowledge as well as a knowledge of magic. Our objective will be to integrate this change in the European environment in a comparative manner. This will be done by considering selected small regions and creative cases, such as hand-crafted and industrial products, in the process of which we will also be questioning their viability like, for instance, on the basis of global networking. Basically, as one theory goes, there was an innovation-friendly environment in the Austrian lands and the Habsburg monarchy as well.
In this context, we will deal with the role of ideologies, i.e. with logicising, with rational as well as orientating talking about ideas. Our search for historic interpretations of the world is thus accompanied by the ancient quest for the reality of (in this case: creative) ideas or, as it has been said since the 19th century: for its “material” principles. In Austria too, this included fields such as educational opportunities, in particular literacy or practical communication.
Preparatory phase, joint interpretation of source texts, literature research, presentation, OLAT, field trip
Continuous participation, practical exercises, brief presentation incl. handout, discussion and written paper
