In this course, many aspects of nutrition systems / food systems are examined. In doing so, questions from the field of agricultural geography, economic geography and social geography are dealt with in very local contexts as well as in a global context. It will be about the analysis of current situations as well as the question of the design of future (alternative) food systems.
The concept of the food system is based on those of the ecosystem. An ecosystem includes all living organisms and all abiotic elements that the organisms interact with (such as the sun, geology, human intervention, ...). A food system also includes biological elements and processes as well as social systems and physical infrastructure. Nutrition systems are always interacting with the ecosystems that surround them (based on FAO 2011).
