720297 Theory, research methods, and results of human-oriented work and organizational psychology: Self-Actualization at Work
summer semester 2018 | Last update: 25.05.2018 | Place course on memo listProfound knowledge of theories, methods, and empirical evidence in research of self-actualization at work
The search for happiness and well-being in life – as well as at work, where we spend a lot of our life time – has not only been of concern in philosophy, but also in psychology, e.g., research on work and health. Yet, Aristotle pointed to different goals and ways to achieve the goal of a “good life” by contrasting eudaimonia (as ethically successful life conduct through activity) from hedonia (as egoistic striving for pleasure), which increasingly receive renewed attention against the background of growing criticism of global capitalism, especially by younger generations. By focusing on humanistic theories (e.g., Maslow, Deci & Ryan, Ryff & Singer), concepts of self-actualization at work will be introduced. Assessments of indicators of self-actualization as well as evidence from international studies will be presented and reflected. In the practical part of the course, own case studies on concepts and measures related to self-actualization and personality development at work will be conducted and discussed.
Oral presentations by the lecturer and participants, discussion of actual studies, empirical case study, data analysis, presentation of results, documentations
Examinations using continuous assessment based on regular written and/or oral contributions from the participants
will be announced in the first lesson
