Participants acquire expertise and competence in neurobiological issues related to “attachment theory” such as the reward system ("is social attachment an addiction?") and neurophysiological responses to distress. In addition, the seminar will allow participants to appreciate the possible impact of social attachment and its´ associated neuronal processes (seperation-induced panic, grief) on psychopathologies.

John Bowlby´s „attachment theory“ describes the important influence of early experiences with primary caregivers on psychological well-being Knowledge of the associated neural substrates may improve our understanding of the mechanisms through which early attachment interacts with adult psychopathology. Neurobiological research has begun to address the neural basis of attachment involving reward and motivational processes as well as stress response including bereavement reactions.

Seminar with oral essays and group discussions.

Grades will be given on the basis of the oral essays and participation to group discussions.
