Students are able to illustrate individual sections of the Austrian political system. They acquire in-depth knowledge in these sections and are able to individually wordkin other sections

This course focuses on political parties and the party system in Austria. It covers parties that were relevant in parliament or government during the later phase of the Second Republic: SPÖ, ÖVP, FPÖ (BZÖ), Greens, Liberal Forum/Neos.

·         Party origins and history

·         Ideology, voter profile, and campaigning

·         Members, intra-party organization and decision-making, party elites

Also, the course covers the development of the Austrian party system:

·         Cleavages

·         Format and mechanics of the Austrian party system

·         New lines of conflict and issues (migration, Europe, protest)
