winter semester 2018/2019 | Last update: 19.07.2018 | Place course on memo listThis course will be dedicated to the study of a genre which is commonly marginalized in literary studies: the letter. We will study the evolution of the writing of letters over the centuries, from one generation to the next, from one context to another.
The letter is often associated with autobiographical or intimate writing. Historically speaking, this perception of the art of writing letters has appeared only in recent centuries. Focusing on a choice of representative letters, this cours will attempt to analyze these letters in relation to their social context and to intimacy.
