Acquisition of knowledge on the different forms of historic display and the skills to present historic relations on site and to deconstruct display formats.

Critical dealing with different sources and different ways of presentation; Future historians are meant to be prepared for independently organising, conducting and wrapping-up excursions, an important aspect of their future professional practice.
In view of the many forms of commemoration and remembrance that mark the year 2018 (recalling 1848, 1918, 1938, 1968, etc.), the excursion will provide an overview of the current state of the politics of memory in Austria. We will visit and analyze the Haus der Geschichte Niederösterreich in St. Pölten and the Haus der Geschichte Österreich that is about to open in Vienna, the Dokumentationsarchiv des österreichischen Widerstands along with the Heldenplatz, the National Parliament and the Haus-, Hof- und Staatsarchiv, as well as, depending on accessibility, the Landhaus Niederösterreich and the Federal Chancellery.
