Critical engagement with historical sites, objects and forms of (re-)presentation in memory cultures; skills for explaining historical phenomena in situ

Contents:

With a few examples of cities in the eastern Po valley (Bologna, Ferrara, Verona, Padua, ev. Sabbioneta) we will learn more about the caracteristics of Early Modern Italian cities (walls, ideal city, commune) and related aspects (migration, centre-periphery) as well as city-institutions (University, medicin, princely court).

Guided tours in the field; presentations by the course instructors and by the students
