After successful completion of this course, the students are able to

·         Describe different sociological concepts.

·         Apply selected sociological concepts.

·         Define key-messages of scientific texts.

·         Present scientific contents verbally.

·         Analyze a sociological problem.

The seminar deals with practical procedures in relation to regional development processes (in countries of the North and the South) with case studies from the scientific literature and concrete (research) projects. In addition, questions of peasant identities, gender relations in rural areas and nutritional sociology are discussed.

An excursion on 22.5.2018 (approx. 7:40 - 13:15) to a cattle auction in the Agricultural Center West and the Research Farm Imst will deepen the topic of peasant identities. The cost of the journey must be paid by the students (train or private car).

Presentations, writing key messages of compulsory literature, preparation and presentation of texts by the students, discussion, group work

immanent examinations:

Continuous assessment, evaluation of written key-messages, preparation and presentation of scientific literature texts, active participation in discussions and written take-home-test

Will be discussed in the first session.
