- Knowing and Using Tools for Analyzing aspects of 'labour' in French literary texts with a particular sensibility for race, class and gender issues
Is Work something which makes us happy? Is ist a Duty for everyone? Is it something leading in our alienation?
In his first, theorectical part, the course will present the transformation of work during the centuries (industrial, postindustrial, neocapitalist, etc.) and familiarize students with different philosophical postitions (cf. Marxism, Saint-Simonisme, utopias, dystopias linked to work issues)
In the pratical part novels dealing with this topic will be analyized.
Student’s presentation; text analysis and discussion; group work, entries in the 'journal de lecture', written term paper
Criteria of evaluation: (1) Readings (theoretical and literary texts). (2) Regular and active participation. (3) Presentation. (4) entries in the 'journal de lecture' (5) Written term paper.
