This course will teach the students of culturals studies how to write and record content for radio reports and podcast segments.

This hands-on course will give the participants the chance to work in a sandbox editorial team and try out in the fields of scientific journalism and university extension. The students will analyze examples of scientific radio programs and podcasts and discuss in what way scientific language needs to be re-written in order to reach a wider audience. We will write texts for audio media, train how to sucessfully lead radio interviews, discuss audio recording techniques, edit and mix audio files in a DAW and look at the ways content can be distributed via podcasting. This course will cover all necessary technical production stages as well as content-related aspects so that students will be able to produce scientific audio content.

Kick-off presentations by the instructor, discussion groups, in-course and extracurricular writing and audio recording, peer feedback in the form of sandbox editorial team sessions.

Over the course of the semester students will produce audio content and write texts for radio or podcasts. Together with a production report, these will be the basis for assessment. Active participation in the group discussions as well as in the exercises is expected.
