Title: Geographies of the Global South. Development theories, discussions and perspectives

Course description:
The geographical confrontation with countries of the so-called Global South has a long tradition. Numerous theories, approaches and strategies have been developed and tested, from colonial geography to the debate on sustainable development.

What does development mean? How is development measured? Why are the countries of the North and the South at different levels of development? And how is this difference explained? Can the structural differences between "North" and "South" be overcome through development cooperation? The seminar deals with these and similar questions.

Furthermore, the seminar aims to critically examine North-South relations in relation to the extraction of natural resources and the resulting social-ecological conflicts.

Continuous assessment (based on regular written and/or oral contribution by participants).

Course examination according to § 7, statute section on "study-law regulations"
