Good knowledge of the language of Aeolian lyric in general and of Sappho in particular; awareness of the often uncritical "adoption" of Sappho by queer studies.
Poetological and linguistic analysis particularly of the longer fragments of Sappho plus some of Alkaios. Metric and gender studies will be discussed.
Closre reading by the whole group and discussion.
Regular attendance is madatory. Evaluation of contributions to the close reading and the discussion; end of term paper.
