645109 UE Philosophy of Science "Everything turns": Political Cultural History - Cultural History of the Political
winter semester 2019/2020 | Last update: 07.10.2019 | Place course on memo listExamination of different paradigms and patterns of interpretation in political cultural history; deepened knowledge on the basis of recent research literature
In the 1990s, the cultural turn of the historical humanities also reached the traditionally conservative field of political history. Since then, beside many theoretical and methodological contributions a multitude of studies – for instance, on symbolic communication (rituals, ceremonies etc.) or on historical semantics – have been published, which testify to the fecundity of this paradigm shift. However, critical responses were not lacking either. The tutorial first aims at exploring the basic assumptions and leading perspectives in this area. Furthermore, the conceptual knowledge will be deepened by on the basis of recent research on the early modern period and the nineteenth century.
