winter semester 2020/2021 | Last update: 26.11.2020 | Place course on memo listParticipants know the subject's development, history and main theories and are able to give an overview. They explain and critically analyze texts and artefacts of the history of religions on the basis of contemporary research.
After introducing the development and object of "history of religions", the course offers an overview of contemporary research in the history of religions. The interpretation of central texts and artefacts is at the core of this course. The Lecture will inter alia focus on the origins of religion (particularly Neolithic developments), the relation between politics and religion, enlightenment and religious conviction and the power discourses in and about religion/s.
