basic knowledge concerning the historical and cultural contexts of the New Testament writings
Knowledge of ancient history and the environment in which Christianity emerged is vital for the understanding and interpretation of the texts of the New Testament. This lecture series offers an overview of the contemporary historical framework and the religious, political, cultural and social relations at the time of Jesus and during the consequent spread of the Christian movement.
