They understand to allocate the most important qualitative and quantitative survey methods to the respective scientific-theoretical and methodological background and chose the necessary methods for each research question. They are able to deal with current empirical studies and to apply the first steps of a research process (formulation of a research issue, data collection, method reflection) autonomously in terms of quality and/or quantity or method.
Short description: This course gives an overview of qualitative and quantitative research methods in the social sciences. Students learn basic concepts and approaches in each method and its scientific backgrounds. Learning targets: - Understand how to link theoretical concepts and empirical research - Become acquainted with the practical research process (specifying a research question, choosing an adequate research design, collecting, analyzing and interpreting data). - Be able to collect data using standard research methods (surveys, interviews, observations, focus groups).

This course is held with the help of OLAT.
The lecture contains interactive components. Due to COVID-19-regulations, it will be held both in form of physical presence in the Aula and "live" via digital media (more detailed information will follow). Active participation is possible via physical and virtual presence. Aditionally, a record of the lecture will be available.
Presumably, about 34 persons will be able to participate in the Aula. For this option you have to register obligatory via OLAT.
