Knowledge of the terms, methods, questions and theories of the philosophy of religion: the ability to analyze this content to relate it to one another, to question it independently and to develop it further

The idea of self is the basis for different sorts of identities in a culture. In this course, the boundaries and definitions of the self shall be explored in Eastern religions and philosophical schools. The course also investigates the fluid borders of identity and its broader multilayered nature. The material or physical self identifies itself with the land, people, and physical places, while the immaterial or non-physical self identifies itself with religious, philosophical and spiritual traditions which may rise above the temporal and physical realities. In an Eastern context, the sense and attainment of the ultimate Self in certain spiritual and philosophical contexts may be the highest goal. This course will investigate the relationship between Eastern conceptions of self and varying concepts identity.
