winter semester 2020/2021 | Last update: 26.08.2020 | Place course on memo listOn successful completion of this course, students should be able to trace the fundamental lines of the historical development of the history of Latin Palaeograhy and book culture, as well to read, date and localize original documents. They should also be able to trace the reception of the classical authors discussed.
Introduction to Latin Palaeography. In order to provide students with the good understanding of the history and the development of Latin palaeography and western book culture, the course will deal with the most overspread and the most important scripts from the first centuries until the end of Humanism. This course aims at presenting an overview of this tradition, focusing in particular on Humanistic minuscule. A basic knowledge of Latin is required.
Combination of lectures and discussion with students.
Written exam in German. Attendance and participation of the student during the course will count for 25% of the final mark.
Secondary Literature will be provided during the course.
