605113 VU VO Special Aspects of Greek Literature: The Study of Nature in Greek and Latin Texts
summer semester 2021 | Last update: 19.11.2020 | Place course on memo listThe participants will gain knowledge about ancient scientific texts from different genres and about the development of ancient science in antiquity in general.
The class will focus on reading Greek and Latin texts about the study of nature. An input on ancient science in general will be followed by reading and interpreting a selection of Greek texts, which will be selected according to the participants’ knowledge of Greek. The rest of the semester will be dedicated to Latin works: Lucretius, Pliny the Elder, Seneca. The class concludes with a short outlook on post-classical Latin science.
No special scientific background is needed for this class!
