Basics of sports sociology and socialisation in terms of sports; knowledge about sports in social context; understanding the relation between sports and society by means of selected examples; comprehension of gender specific and intercultural characteristics of exercise and sports; sports as tool for integration and inclusion.
Significance of sports in society; sportive activities in Austria as compared to Europe; sports institutions and funding; economical influence of physical exercise on the health system; integration through sports; relationship between sports and media, politics, economics, religion, race, gender, youth, etc.; application of empirical social research methods.
Self-study-provided literature, Lecture, discussion.
Written exam (if necessary intermediate written examination)
Will be discussed in the first lesson.
