summer semester 2021 | Last update: 14.01.2022 | Place course on memo listIn this course will be given a chronological overview of the cultural histories of historical societies in Andalusia, Sicily and the Balkans. The aim of the seminar is to deal with cultural phenomenons from the year 712 until the present. Moreover, the role of these historical regions for the shared cultural history of Europe will be critically evaluate aside from overheated political debates.
The lecture gives an overview of the cultural history in core regions of the European continent, which over several centuries were strongly influenced by developements in the Near East. Andalusia, Sicily and Southeastern Europe are in the center of attention. The students will be introduced to the methods and concepts of Islamic art history and learn about central terms of this subject. The aim is to develop a routine in the analysis of material groups and architectural types, to recognize and characterize independently art forms and stylistic periods.
Active participation in the seminar and discussion on the presented material.
