Students should study the history, historical and cultural centres of Islam in Europe and find out that Islam's relationship to Europe is not new, and that despite many similarities, Islamic culture and history reveals fascinating and very distinctive regional differences. The students should get to know different historical epochs, reflect on them and be able to motivate students to develop themselves according to their abilities and skills and to make a positive contribution to Islam and Europe.

Since the beginning of the 21st century, the image of Islam in many European countries where Muslims live, has undergone manifold reinterpretations ranging from so-called "fundamentalist groups" to the so-called "Euroislam". Therefore, this lecture would like to take up the history of Islam in Europe, which is much older than the completely new developments, and show how Islam should be understood as an enrichment (but also partly as a threat) for Europe: from Andalusia to the Ottoman Empire , Bosnia, the Balkans and the EU. Cultural and educational centers as well as the education of the Muslim hospital system and health care from the 8th century should be considered. The following questions, inter alia, will be investigated:
