Students will have a good overview of social sciences and methods of empirical social research - as far as necessary for studying geography. An important teaching aim refers to the grand social theories, the various perspectives and approaches in the social sciences, as well as to the different research designs (chapt. 4).

1. Introduction: Limits of Everyday Thinking. 2. Basic terms of Social Sciences 3. Social theories 4. Methods of empirical social research (techniques of data acquisition) 

Input oriented course by distance teaching. Students can get involved through social media.

At the end of the course (further possible repetitions in the subsequent semester).

Students will be informed during the first lesson.
