About “bad buildings” and “right spaces”. About history, instrumentalization and redefinition of Nazi buildings
The seminar requires participation in the conference “Verifying Places. On Dealing with Buildings Contaminated by National Socialism ”from November 4th to 6th at the University of Innsbruck. Following on this, the building history of individual Nazi buildings as well as the current handling of the individual buildings will be examined in the seminar. While many buildings were used pragmatically immediately after the end of the war and only got rid of their Nazi insignia, the question of a contemporary debate between renovation in line with existing buildings or a break in continuity, which is also visible structurally, has increased in recent decades. Can structural means break the overwriting of the Nazi past? How and in what form do the structural evidence offer space for a differentiated discussion?
The seminar examines individual cases historically and in their current form, function and use. An excursion is planned.
Course examination according to § 7, statute section on "study-law regulations".
Will be discussed in the first lesson.
