The Catholic Church defines its social doctrine as “an integral part of the Christian conception of life” (Mater et magistra 222). This lecture provides a systematic introduction into the tradition of Catholic social teaching as it has been established in its magisterial documents. Additional to the presentation of each document the lecture will also give an overview of the Church’s position on important socio-political questions like the creation of economic and political order, of international politics and peace, or its dealing with the ecological environment and discuss them in a critical manner.
