Students will develop a conceptual understanding of the importance of whistleblowing in the context of organizational practices and will be able to assess ethical and political dimensions.

Employees who disclose and publicize misconduct in and by organizations play a central role in the critique and transformation of organizational practices. The topic of Whistleblowing is situated at the intersection of organizational communication and governance. In the seminar we will discuss: Foundations of the ethics and politics of "truth-telling" (parrhesia) and “speaking up” in organizations, central whistleblowing approaches in Organization Studies, whistleblowing systems and speak-up arrangements, selected case studies.

 

Discussion of texts, casestudies, presentations, group-work.
