720340 SE Special Clinical Methods of Research: Neuroimaging of Emotion and affective disorders
winter semester 2021/2022 | Last update: 14.06.2021 | Place course on memo listData science is an exciting discipline that allows one to turn raw data into understanding, insight, and knowledge. The goal of this course is to help you learn the most important tools in R that will allow you to do data science. Participants will learn how to import and organize data in R. They will be able to represent relationships between variables and display properties of data using sophisticated graphical techniques. They will acquire the basics for validating data sets for later analysis.
How to import your data into R and transform it into a data frame in R. Storing data in a consistent form that matches the semantics of the dataset. Transformation of data like narrowing in on observations of interest, creating new variables that are functions of existing variables, and calculating a set of summary statistics (like counts or means); introduction to the principles of relational databases.
Using visualisation to reveal unexpected features of data, to discover question to be asked and to display relationships between variables. Basic modelling skills to quantify relationship between variables. Use of communication tools (notebooks, markdwon) to bring together models and visualization techniques.
Basic Programming skills in R to glue everything together and automate tasks.
This course is an ideal complement to the VU 'Data analysis with linear models in R'
