103110 VO Theories and structures of conflict, trauma and violence
summer semester 2022 | Last update: 14.09.2023 | Place course on memo listStudents reflect on the connection between conflict, violence and
collective trauma. The focus is on the philosophical traditions of the 20th century and on social and cultural studies.
The lecture discusses central theories of conflict, violence and collective trauma. The relationship between these terms is extrapolated by means of selected theories of social and cultural studies. The lecture orients itself in particular towards two perspectives: (1) on the discursive reconstruction of key categories of current discussions about the terms of conflict, violence and (collective) trauma; (2) on the importance of "symbolic forms" in social processes: the language and the specific meaning of the visual. Central topics are therefore the continuation of structural forms of violence, the role of terror and enemy image (production) in the past and present. What implications this will have for a new political formation will also be subject of the discussion.
