This class aims to acquaint students with the philosophy of Willard Van Orman Quine and with his views concerning semantics and ontology.

Willard Van Orman Quine (1908 - 2000) is regarded to be one of the most influential philosophers of the 20th century. He wrote widely on logic, epistemology, philosophy of science, philosophy of language, semantics, and ontology. In this class, we will get to know and discuss Quine’s conception of language, reference, and the relation between language and reality.

Short student presentation and discussion. 

Short presentation (40%), Essay (60%).
