summer semester 2022 | Last update: 13.07.2022 | Place course on memo listCurr. 2021 § 5 (1) 12: The students can reflect the current status of the debates on the dynamics of social change in agriculture and rural areas and describe their interactions with social developments (in Austria, Europe and in countries in the south). They will be able to reflect on and analyse processes of urban-rural relationships as well as the fundamentals of regional development processes using social science theories.
The seminar introduces local and global challenges in agricultural and regional development as well as in the globalised agri-food system. The students will get to know an overview of common theories in these fields and work on case studies in Tyrol, Europe and the global South. English articles of renowned scientists serve as a basis. Example topics are peasant identities, gender relations in rural areas, organic farming, development theories, agricultural movements and power relations in the agricultural and food system. In addition, lecturers share experiences from their everyday professional. All in all, students gain an insight into the research field and current research projects in the region and now how they may contribute to the field as a professional after finishing their studies.
