Exemplary examination of current specialist scientific discourses with
regard to the practical processing of concrete tasks in a selected topic area.
This course focuses on hate speech in news forums and how the media deals with this form of public communication. Freedom of speech is a mandatory prerequisite for democracies. But with digitalization hate speech on the net has increasingly become a problem. Today, it is part of public communication (discourse) and a challenge for society. The learning objective of this VU is for participants to be able to assess the organizational and societal implications of hate on the net or hate in news forums. Students should gain knowledge about existing measures against hate on the net, such as on the part of politics (e.g. www.nohatespeech.at) and platform operators. The behavior of users (such as counter-speech) will be considered in this context. We will also discuss how realistic the success of these measures is.
