intimate knowledge of ethics as a philosophical discipline as well as the capability of analyzing, interrelating and reflecting it; advanced philosophical reasoning.

The treatment of metaethical questions (in particular concerning the theory of knowledge) constitutes the “groundwork” for any ethical, i.e. action-guiding, theory. Thoroughly studying these basics of morality will be at the center of this course discussing the major metaethical traditions and introducing into the system of thought of selected ancient, modern and contemporary moral philosophers.
