603713 SE Principles of Educational Science: Advanced II: Youth, Adolescence, Intergenerational Dynamics in Transregional Perspective
summer semester 2022 | Last update: 14.02.2022 | Place course on memo listStudents are able to present and critically contextualize the basic theoretical concepts and approaches of youth and adolescence research; they are familiar with the current discussion on the topic and can orient themselves in the research field.
This seminar provides an overview of different perspectives on youth and adolescence. The basic pedagogical and sociological assumptions of past and current debates will be critically examined. The discussion is structured along historical lines of theorizing on the one hand, and along thematic axes such as gender, social inequality, generation, education, space, and political socialization, participation, and representation on the other. While most knowledge is produced about young people in European and North American migration societies worldwide, the demographically 'most youthful' societies worldwide are found in North Africa and West Asia (NAWA). Therefore, prevailing models of youth/adolescence will be productively confronted with the discussion about youth in NAWA before and since the 'Arab Spring' and in the corresponding transnational spaces.
