To familiarize students with some alternative approaches to the screenplay, including its relationship- and place-based narratives, drawing on the ideas of Carlo Ginzburg and William Uricchio's Documentary Fiction Studio

Students will be introduced to a number of examples of/ and approaches to screenwriting, and via writing exercises will produce a short film or other audiovisual script which responds either to place or to archive

Lecture input, reading assignments, discussions, writing exercises, script readings, improvisation

Final presentation
Written submission: based on readings of selected scripts

A list of required readings will be distributed in the first session of class.

Prerequisite for the Teacher Training Program: none

The course "New Approaches to Screen Writing" (AG 5 ECTS) can be taken within the framework of the supplement "Filmwissenschaft" instead of "American Cinema, Media and Culture" (VO, 5 ECTS) or "Film as an artistic and social medium" (VU, 5 ECTS).
