720298 SE Theories, Research Methods and Results of human-oriented Working- and Organisational Psychology: Self-Determination and Self-Actualization At and Beyond Work
summer semester 2022 | Last update: 11.03.2022 | Place course on memo listProfound knowledge of theories, methods, and empirical evidence in research of self-determination and self-actualization
The search for happiness and well-being in life – as well as at work, which consumes substantial life time – has not only been of concern in philosophy, but also in work psychology, e.g., research on work and health. Yet, Aristotle pointed to different goals and ways to achieve a “good life” by contrasting eudaimonia (as ethically successful life conduct through activity) from hedonia (as egoistic striving for pleasure), which increasingly receive renewed attention against the background of growing criticism of global capitalism, especially by younger generations. By focusing on humanistic theories (e.g., Maslow, Deci & Ryan, Ryff, Steger), concepts of self-determination and self-actualization will be introduced. Assessments of indicators of self-determination and self-actualization as well as empirical evidence will be presented and reflected. In the practical part of the course, pilot studies will be conducted and discussed.
Oral presentations by the lecturer and participants, discussion of theories and actual studies, empirical case study, data analysis, presentation of results, documentations
Examinations using continuous assessment based on regular written and/or oral contributions from the participants
will be announced in the first lesson
