summer semester 2022 | Last update: 06.05.2022 | Place course on memo listIn the course Architectural Theory_1 (AT1 for short), students receive an overview of various positions in architectural theory between approx. 1750 and 1900. The focus of the reflections is the topic of reform, i.e. the efforts of architects and other participants in the social, economic and cultural discourses to introduce improvements to and in our (built) living environments.
Students develop competences on how to derive critical analyses, theoretical strands or approaches from the positions presented.
Each lecture is dedicated to a specific theme, e.g. "Architecture and Utopia", revolutionary architecture (Claude-Nicolas Ledoux, Étienne-Louis Boullée and Jean-Jacques Lequeu) and the so-called early socialist utopians (Robert Owen and Charles Fourier).
Presentation of the respective theme and the most important participants in the respective discourse in connection with the corresponding major works, the main features and stations of their reception. Development of a fondamental base for the development of critical analyses and possible interpretations in architectural theory.
