winter semester 2022/2023 | Last update: 21.03.2023 | Place course on memo listStudents know the most important principles of faith, questions and basic concepts of Islam and their historical development as well as their position in the overall context of Islamic theology. The students are enabled to recognise the significance of theological core statements for contemporary coexistence and to enter into a dialogue.
The course offers an overview of the history and theology of Islam in its plurality. The context of the origin of Islam and its theology as well as the foundations of Islam will be addressed. Selected topics include the foundations of faith, the "Five Pillars", the sources (Koran and Sunna), the relationship between reason and revelation, the image of man and God in Islam, important personalities and currents. The topics covered should form a basis for understanding and classifying the current debates on Islam in the European context. The students are enabled to recognise the significance of theological core statements for contemporary coexistence and to enter into a dialogue.
