Students will be able to develop, implement and reflect on a qualitative research design to engage with the complex realities of inclusion and inequality. They will have practiced working with official documents of national and international organizations as well as contacting and interacting with inclusive education institutions locally, nationally and internationally. On this basis, students expand their knowledge of the justified use of qualitative research methods and the versatility and different levels of inclusive education change, which will lay the foundation for writing the MA thesis.

Global crises - first and foremost climate change and the erosion of democratic political institutions - are threatening the living conditions of people worldwide. Responding to these crises, the UN adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aiming to trigger environmental, economic and social reforms. There are 17 goals in total; they range from "clean water" and "climate action" to "quality inclusive education" and "fewer inequalities." To engage with the human rights challenge of inclusive education in the context of this workshop, students develop a comparative study in the field of disability and education research, taking into account social inequalities and inclusion. They develop problem descriptions and questions and discuss these against the background of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Methodologically, they preferably combine a Grounded Theory Methodology (GTM) with a Sociology of Knowledge Approach to Discourse (SKAD), which is taught in course 603115. Students have the opportunity to continue their research as a master's thesis in the "Master Thesis Seminar: Disability Studies and Inclusive Education" in summer 2022.

Reading, group discussions, group work, conducting of mini-studies, writing up analyses, presenting data and interpretations

Active participation, regular work assignments, term paper about the research project

Parallel completion of the course 603115 Research Seminar Methods in Inequality, Inclusion, and Childhood Studies is recommended.
