Students deal with new themes in selected key areas. They understand and evaluate them as well as argument with regards to scientific dynamics and trends of the respective key areas. They understand the strengths and weaknesses of the different methodological approaches. They gain competences in independent formulating of questions and argumentations.

Advanced knowledge on the subject; advanced competence in academic writing, presentation of results.

The course will deal with may facets of the the personylity and the reign of Emperor Frederick II (1194-1250) and, above all, explore the question why such al great cult could develop around this figure, a cult taht continues to this day.

Reading and interpreting sources and academic literature, discussion, lecture.

Participation in class, presentation of the results of individual research, written thesis
